ENGAGING COMMUNITIES FOR INTEGRATED AND SUSTAINABLE BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION & GREEN FINANCING PROJECT
The project’s general objective is to enhance protection of the Catubig Watershed through engaging communities for integrated and sustainable biodiversity conservation and green financing. Specifically, it aims to implement the following objectives:
  • To organize and capacitate Village Conservation Teams (VCTs) for ensuring cooperation among target communities in boosting the protection of the Catubig Watershed.
  • To empower VCTs to implement community-based conservation initiatives in the target sites, including habitat restoration and protection and environmental campaigns; and
  • To capacitate VCTs-as village -managed financial service providers-for the development of community-based financing scheme, promotion of conservation enterprises and for the sustainability of their initiated conservation efforts.
Component 1.1
Formation & Capacity Building of Village Conservation Team (VCT)
  • Conducted project orientation to 20 target barangays attended by 698 potential project beneficiaries
  • Developed survey tool
  • Conducted socio-economic profiling survey & environmental scanning to all 20 target barangays
  • Identified/selected 30 HHs per target barangay, total of 600 HHs as project direct beneficiaries
    Formed /organized the 30 selected HHs per target barangay intoVCT, a total of VCTS formed/organized with total HH members of 600, 245 men and355 women
  • Developed constitution and by-laws of each of the 20 VCTs
  • Formulated annual work plan for each of these 20 formed VCTs
  • Conducted registration orientation to all VCT Officers ( facilitated by DOLE staff)
  • Facilitated in accomplishing and in registering these 20 VCTS with DOLE
  • Conducted Basic Training on Organizational Development (OD) and strengthening of 20 VCTs

Component 1.2 
VCTs Capacity Building towards Habitat Protection & Monitoring

  • Conducted TNA through FGD to each of the 20 VCTsand identified their needed training related to biodiversity including potentiallivelihoods/conservation enterprises
  • Conducted deputation trainingwith 88 VCT members deputized as DENROs
  • Conducted of planning workshop for the development of VCT biodiversity protection and monitoring and evaluation plan
